Standing Offer Agreement for Mobile Workplace Services (SOA-MWS)

Introduction

To facilitate various Bureaux/Departments (B/Ds) in acquiring mobile handheld devices and related services for accessing Notes e-mail anywhere and anytime, the Digital Policy Office has entered into the Standing Offer Agreements for the provision of Mobile Workplace Services (MWS) and the supply of the Mobile Workplace Handheld Devices (MWHD).

MWS is a centralised mobile service to provide B/D users with the remote access of Notes e-mail and calendar using handheld devices. It also provides functions such as Short Message Service (SMS), voice / data roaming and Internet/Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) access. Contractors used the HCL Traveler (formerly known as IBM Notes Traveler) systems to implement their solutions for MWS.

Function/Features

The MWS provides a set of tools running on handheld devices to access departmental Notes e-mails and other information such as calendar entries. The summary of the services provided is listed below:

e-Mail access

  • Compose, view, forward and reply Notes e-mails, including encrypted e-mails, using the handheld devices
  • View e-mail attachments in formats such as .doc, .xls, .ppt, .docx, .xlsx, .pptx and .pdf.
  • Support English, Traditional and Simplified Chinese contents.

Personal Information Management (PIM)

  • View, update the calendar entries stored in the Notes server of B/Ds.

Other functions

  • Intra and Inter operator SMS;
  • Internet access services; and
  • Mobile Device Management.
