Effective Systems Analysis & Design (SA&D) Guide
1. Purpose
The Effective SA&D Guide provides a set of comprehensive steps, tools and templates to enable the effective conduct of Systems Analysis and Design (SA&D) in IT projects.
2. What is Effective SA&D Guide?
The Effective SA&D Guide is developed by the Digital Policy Office with reference to local and international industry best practices, and tailored in accordance with HKSAR Government’s environment.
3. Two Stages and Four Deliverables in SA&D Phase
Requirements stage
The Requirements stage includes the modelling of current and future business processes, as well as capturing and eliciting user requirements.
Two deliverables are produced in the Requirements stage:
- Current Environment Description (CED), and
- Requirements specification.
Analysis & Design stage
The Analysis & Design stage includes a description of the overall high-level system architecture and the application design. The activities in Analysis & Design stage help to ensure that the architecture, requirements and implementation plans are accurately recorded and the risks are sufficiently mitigated. They also determine the cost and schedule for the completion of the development.
Two deliverables are produced in the Analysis & Design stage:
- System Specification, and
- Technical System Option (TSO).
